In the January Cabinet Papers there was a paper on a piece of partnership working between the Ebbsfleet Development Corporation and Gravesham Borough Council to do some scoping work on some of the land GBC owns with a view to seeing if anything could come of it due to the housing development targets for EDC not being fully met yet. One of these pieces of land was the land on which Shears Green Community Centre currently sits on.
Once I had read the papers with this in I asked for and had a meeting with the relevant Director at GBC to find out more information and discussions were also held with fellow Councillors. While we all know that the community centre is in need of some work, having a community centre at the heart of our community in Coldharbour is important and as such this decision was called by the Labour Group into the Overview Scrutiny Committee to find out more. The centre is used by many local community groups and for one off events and as such we should ensure that we maintain a Council run, Council owned, community facility in Coldharbour Ward.
I attended this committee as well and put on record that I wished to see the community of Coldharbour retain a fit for purpose community facility.
The Director and Cabinet Member are currently working on a report and I will update the community when I know more.
