About Me

About Shane Mochrie-Cox

Shane was born in Gravesend and is a local resident in the Coldharbour and Perry Street Ward with his wife and two young children. Many members of Shane's family live or have lived in the ward as well. Shane grew up on a council estate in Northfleet and went to school in Northfleet. After leaving North West Kent College (Gravesend Campus) as it was then known, Shane worked for local government before going to university in Scotland to qualify as a professional youth worker.

Shane has worked for many years as a qualified youth worker both for local authorities and in the voluntary sector and has helped many young people get the best start in life and to get them involved in their communities.

Shane is a passionate believer in social justice and joined the Labour Party over 20 years ago to ensure that local people are heard and involved in decisions that affect them.

Shane is proud to be elected for the ward of Coldharbour and Perry Street, his local home ward, in a 2014 by-election and subsequently in 2017 in a further by-election and again in 2019 and 2023 in the Borough Elections.

Shane is also pleased to have been on the Gravesham Labour frontbench since 2017 first as the Shadow Cabinet Member for Community Services and since the 2019 Gravesham Borough Council Elections in which Labour formed the Administration as the Cabinet Member for Community and Leisure. After the 2023 Borough Council Elections Shane was elected by his Group colleagues to be the new Deputy Leader of the Labour Group and at the 2023 Annual Council became the Deputy Leader of the Council and Cabinet Member for Strategic Environment.

Shane's current Portfolio responsibilities as Deputy Leader of the Council and Cabinet Member for Strategic Environment can be found in the Constitution of the Council which can be found here: https://democracy.gravesham.gov.uk/documents/s82916/Annex%201%20-%20Responsibility%20of%20Functions.pdf
